Transitioning from manual glove packaging to robotic automation

AFA Group, a Malaysian manufacturer of packaging machinery for gloves, medical, and FMCG products, faced major bottlenecks in their glove packaging line. Manual processes—such as stacking, weighing, inner and outer boxing, and stamping—not only required significant manpower, but also led to inconsistent quality. To overcome these challenges, AFA Group partnered with OMRON to automate critical end-of-line tasks. The OMRON i4L SCARA robots now handle glove packing with high precision, accommodating multiple packaging sizes for different customer orders. For carton erecting, OMRON’s TM Series collaborative robots assemble boxes efficiently and safely, working side-by-side with operators and saving valuable floor space. Once the gloves are packed, the LD-250 Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) transports the finished boxes to the next station, streamlining internal logistics and further reducing manual handling.

As a result of implementing glove packaging automation, AFA Group achieved a 90% reduction in direct labor, minimized downtime during product changeovers, and significantly improved packaging consistency.
