Ice Bakers, Denmark’s pioneer in 100% plant-based ice cream, faced a challenge familiar to many fast-growing food producers: how to rapidly scale output without sacrificing quality or overburdening their team. With demand for vegan ice cream soaring, their manual packaging process became a bottleneck, limiting daily shipments and putting pressure on staff.
To address this, Ice Bakers partnered with Jysk Elteknik and Jens A. A/S to implement an advanced end-of-line-packaging automation solution using OMRON’s TM series collaborative robot. Integrated with the Sysmac platform, PLC control, and other standard components, the system features a 3D-printed vacuum tool that picks and packs eight ice cream tubs at a time, seamlessly transferring them into cartons for distribution. The result? A remarkable 80% increase in packaging line capacity—now handling up to 12000 tubs per day.
By automating the packaging process, Ice Bakers not only met market demand but also unlocked new efficiencies. Staff were redeployed to more complex tasks, while consistent, reliable operation ensured every carton met strict quality standards. The flexibility of OMRON’s collaborative robot allows for quick adaptation to new product sizes and seasonal peaks, future-proofing Ice Bakers’ production.
