Solving space and labor challenges with flexible AMR automation

Normagrup, a global leader in advanced lighting solutions, faced a critical challenge: efficiently transporting materials between three production zones, an assembly area, and an automated warehouse—all through narrow corridors shared with factory staff. Manual handling slowed production and limited traceability, while traditional AGVs couldn’t adapt to the dynamic, space-constrained environment.

To address these challenges, Normagrup partnered with Inser Robótica and OMRON to deploy a fleet of four OMRON LD-90 Automated Mobile Robots (AMRs), each equipped with custom automatic loading and unloading stations. These automated mobile robots autonomously navigate changing environments, avoid obstacles, and communicate directly with Normagrup’s warehouse management and ERP systems via MQTT protocol, ensuring real-time traceability and seamless integration.

Inser Robótica engineered specialized conveyor modules and coupling elements, allowing the AMRs to automatically align with fixed stations for efficient, hands-free material transfer between production zones and the warehouse. As a result, Normagrup has achieved flexible, automated material flow, rapid adaptation to changing workflows, and enhanced operational visibility throughout the assembly line.
