Danfoss Improves Warehouse Flow Without Expanding Floor Space
Reducing manual handling and improving space use in warehouse operations
Danfoss Power Solutions, a global supplier of mobile hydraulics, needed to improve warehouse operations at its Nordborg facility. Growth had increased pressure on available floor space, while manual handling of heavy boxes placed physical strain on employees and limited flexibility in daily operations. Expanding the building was not a practical option, so Danfoss looked for a way to improve material flow within the existing footprint.
To address the challenge, Danfoss collaborated with OMRON, RoboTool, and Nord Modules to implement an integrated automation system. The solution combines LD-90 Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), an AutoStore automated storage solution, and an industrial robot for loading and unloading. RoboTool supported the system integration, while Nord Modules developed the mobile robot solution.
In the new workflow, OMRON mobile robots transport components between the AutoStore system and the factory floor. An industrial robot handles loading and unloading, reducing the need for employees to lift and move heavy boxes manually. This has helped Danfoss improve ergonomics, increase space efficiency, and create a more consistent logistics flow within the facility.
The automated setup allows 860 square meters of production space to be used more efficiently while supporting changes in order volume. The project also received industry recognition with a nomination for the DIRA Automation Award 2024.
